The ICA Sub Regional Office for North Africa

The chairman of the General Authority for Construction and Housing Cooperatives is the Chairman of both the Sub Regional Office for North Africa and the African Organization for Housing Cooperatives as well as the Secretary General of the Africa Ministerial Cooperative Conference Cabinet.

Who are we?

CHC-Egypt is honored to host ICA Sub-Regional Office for North Africa in Cairo as a result of the 3 successful International Conferences for Cooperative Housing held consecutively in 2013, 2016 and 2019 as well as the great efforts exerted and the innovative cooperative axes adopted and presented by the Authority on the African and the International levels.

History

ICA Sub-Regional Office for North Africa  was established officially after signing the Host Country Agreement on the 5th of August 2021 between the Egyptian government represented by the General Authority for Construction and Housing Cooperatives and the International Cooperative Alliance- Africa in presence of H.E. Mostafa Madbouly, Egypt’s Prime Minister, H.E Dr. Assem El Gazzar, Egypt’s Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities along with the presidents of ICA, ICA-Africa and CHI.

Vision

The sub regional office for North Africa shares the vision of both ICA and ICA-Africa regarding the need to develop and strengthen the cooperative movement worldwide.
The sub regional office for North Africa aspires to become a pioneer of the cooperative movement in all region area of the African continent. We also aim at raising the public awareness about the cooperative identity in Africa.

Mission

  • To Develop economic and other mutually beneficial relations among ICA, ICA-Africa and the North Africa Member countries and Cooperatives.
  • To Make use of cooperative statistics, legislation, and policies to create an enabling environment to maximize the potential and capabilities of cooperative entities in North Africa.
  • To create and support activities and programs aiming at achieving economic growth and sustainable human development in compliance with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) and the Africa’s Agenda 2063 as long as the mechanisms to be implemented to establish the African Free Trade Area.
  • To emphasize the Arabic culture, identity and language in the North Africa Member countries and Cooperatives.
  • To promote the Principles of Gender Equality in decision making and activities of the cooperative movement.
  • To encourage the participation of cooperative entities in North Africa in economic activities in the African Continent

Our Activities

  • Enhancing ways of cooperation with the International Cooperative Alliance-Africa and the International Cooperative Alliance as well, and participating in relevant international conferences and activities.
  • Communicating with cooperative organizations and entities in North African countries to activate their active participation and membership in the Regional Office.
  • Exchanging experiences and visits among leading cooperative entities in North Africa.
  • Organizing training courses, workshops, and online seminars on best practices in administrative, legal, technical, and financial aspects of cooperative activities.
  • Benefiting from successful international cooperative experiences to expand the scope of cooperative activities to include new areas such as education, infrastructure, youth, scientific research, energy, finance, etc.
  • Developing policies and operational mechanisms for current cooperative activities in North African countries through reviewing successful international experiences in this regard.
