The African Organization For Housing Cooperatives

  • Housing Cooperatives aim at maximizing the participation of  civil society in achieving urban and socio economic development without burdening the state’s budget.
  • Housing cooperatives in Egypt have created contemporary axes and models for integrated cooperative housing projects. Housing cooperatives in Egypt has presented these axes in many international conferences and events, contributing to activating the role of housing cooperatives nationally, regionally and internationally.
Who are we?

The African Organization for Housing Cooperatives represents the framework that gathers all housing cooperative entities in the African Region working under the umbrella of the International Cooperative Alliance- Africa(ICA- Africa) and Cooperative Housing International (CHI)

The Scope of Work

  • The African Organization for Housing Cooperatives mainly works under the umbrella of the International Cooperative Alliance- Africa(ICA- Africa) and in coordination with Cooperative Housing International (CHI).
  • The African Organization for Housing Cooperatives membership includes all cooperative housing members in ICA- Africa.

The African Organization for Housing Cooperatives History

CHC-Egypt is honored to host the permanent headquarters of the African Organization for Housing Cooperatives in Cairo after signing the Host Country Agreement on the 5th of August 2021 in the Egyptian Cabinet headquarters between the Egyptian government represented by the General Authority for Construction and Housing Cooperatives (CHC-Egypt) and the International Cooperatives Alliance- Africa (ICA- Africa). This event has witnessed the presence of H.E Dr. Eng. Mostafa Madbouly, the Prime Minister and H.E Dr.Eng. Assem El Gazzar , the Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities along with the presidents of ICA- Africa, ICA and CHI .

The African Organization for Housing Cooperatives Vision:

  • The African Organization for Housing Cooperatives shares the vision of both ICA and ICA-Africa regarding the necessity to develop and strengthen the cooperative movement worldwide.
  • The African Organization for Housing Cooperatives aspires to become a pioneer in the cooperative movement in the African Region through providing suitable housing for people.

The African Organization for Housing Cooperatives Mission:

  • Creating successful communication systems in the cooperative housing sector in Africa through establishing an effective database about the elements of the cooperative housing system in Africa.
  • Exchanging cooperative experiences and services between African countries and the whole world under the umbrella of the ICA- Africa and CHI
  • Providing training programs to develop the potentials and capacities of housing cooperative members in administrative, financial, legal and engineering fields.
  • Encouraging main housing cooperative organizations and entities to join ICA- Africa.
  • Exchanging visits to successful housing projects affiliated to CHI housing organizations
  • Encouraging African cooperative housing entities to take part in international conferences and events held in Africa and the whole world in order to exchange pioneering cooperative housing experiences.

The African Organization for Housing Cooperatives Activities:

  • Providing training programs to develop the potentials and capacities of housing cooperative members in administrative, financial, legal and engineering fields.
  • Organizing regular meetings in the field of housing cooperatives
  • Encouraging main housing cooperative organizations and entities to join ICA- Africa.
  • Exchanging visits to successful housing projects affiliated to CHI housing organizations
  • Benefiting from integrated cooperative activities such as financing and infrastructure
